Ronald Harbut, MD, PhD

Dr. Harbut is a fellowship-trained, board-certified pain management specialist with over 20 years of clinical experience. He received his medical degree from Chicago Medical School and completed his residency at Rush University Medical Center at the University of Chicago. He also completed a fellowship in pain management at the prestigious Mayo School of Graduate Medicine in Scottsdale, Arizona. He also holds a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Harbut has extensive experience in pain management, including interventional pain management and intravenous ketamine infusion therapy. Dr. Harbut was the first physician in the United States to receive FDA approval for an official ketamine treatment protocol, and has been treating Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) patients with ketamine therapy for over 15 years. He is a member of the Spine Intervention Society and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. He is also certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology in pain medicine.

A world traveler and internationally recognized pain management physician, Dr. Harbut has held positions at several hospitals and medical centers throughout Canada and Australia. He was also recently awarded a research grant from the American RSDHope Group to continue development of an Android-based app to help with tracking and treatment protocols for pain patients suffering from CRPS.

Though he initially trained to be a pharmacist and research pharmacologist, Dr. Harbut’s experience and professional interests led him on a different path. “I wanted to be able to apply all that I learned clinically and become a pain medicine physician, treating my patients in a holistic manner,” said Dr. Harbut. “The most rewarding aspect of my job is when we are able to help reduce or eliminate a patient’s chronic pain.”

About Us

Western Slope Ketamine Clinic offers ketamine infusion therapy (IV ketamine therapy) treatments for those throughout the Colorado and Utah area who are suffering from Treatment Resistant Depression, Major Depressive Disorder, or a number of different chronic pain conditions. We thoroughly understand what goes along with chronic pain and depression, including the frustration of trying everything with no success. Our goal is to reduce the symptoms of depression, and help restore peace of mind and a sense of well-being for those people experiencing chronic pain and depression.

Common treatments for depression, like oral medications or outpatient therapy, do not work for everyone. If you have tried other options including electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial stimulation (TMS) and nothing has worked for you, we may be able to help. This revolutionary ketamine therapy will help people who no longer gain any benefit from existing antidepressant medications. Severely depressed patients may feel like happiness is too far out of reach. Our goal here at the Western Slope Ketamine Clinic is to offer assistance to patients in their darkest hour. If you suffer from severely crippling depression, contact us at 970-632-4001.

Chronic pain can be dramatically altered or even eliminated by ketamine infusions. Certain types of pain considered to be “neuropathic” in origin are considered to be most responsive to ketamine therapy. Examples of these kinds of pain are trigeminal neuralgia, complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), diabetic neuropathies, phantom limb pain, post herpetic neuralgia and fibromyalgia. Other types of chronic pain such as chronic temporal mandibular joint (TMJ) pain, some headaches, and musculoskeletal pain may also benefit from ketamine therapy.
